An articulating microscope allows flexibility not found in a normal boom stand microscope arrangement. The articulating arm is able to be quickly and easily pulled over the specimen’s working area, or quickly retracted out of the way. The arm has a spring loaded mechanism that helps to support the weight of the stereo microscope head mounted to it. A variety of stereoscopic binocular and trinocular heads can fit on these types of boom stands. The most common is a binocular head without the photography port. But sometimes the microscopist finds it useful to have the trinocular microscope head so they can attach video to show all in the room the process on a cctv monitor. They may also want to take high resolution digital still images with a USB microscope camera connected to their articulating boom stand system.
